Quote of the Day
The media would like the American Right to be represented by the likes of Bob Dole and John McCain, decent old sticks who know how to give dignified concession speeches. Last time round, we went along with their recommendation. If you want to get rave reviews for losing gracefully, that’s the way to go. If you want to win, look at whom the Democrats and their media chums are so frantic to destroy: That’s the better guide to what they’re really worried about.

Out of their gords
Britain’s Sunday Telegraph and the Spectator have dropped Mark Steyn, the best editorial writer on the planet. Charles Johnson suspects Steyn’s clear writing on Islam was a motivation. If that is true, then the issue of whether or not to publish Mohammad cartoons becomes truly moot. What kind of bravery is it to publish a cartoon but fire an outstanding writer for having controversial opinions?
Tim Blair quotes leftist Guardian columnist Lionel Shriver:
However you may deplore his opinions, Steyn is funny. How often do you read comment pages and laugh aloud? He writes about big issues with tremendous energy, and he has a sensibility now more pertinent to British politics than ever: a refined sense of the absurd.
Thankfully Steyn is still available in many other publications. The British press has suffered a huge loss.
