Hard to believe
Is New Jersey really going to go Republican tonight?
It’s hard to put any hope in NJ, they rarely vote right, but even Allahpundit is feeling optimistic.
UPDATE: Meanwhile, holy smokes: NBC reverses call of Bloomberg win. I had just finished saying that they wouldn’t call the race for Bloomberg unless it’s a landslide. Seems less landslide-esque so far. NY Times had called it for Bloomie too, will they retract?
ANOTHER UPDATE: AP and Politico have called the race for Chris Christie! This is huge! I can’t believe it’s really happening!
YET ANOTHER UPDATE: This is surprising and big, it looks like a Republican has won Nassau County Executive (beating Tom Suozzi) and also Westchester County Executive. Nassau is not yet confirmed but the winner in Westchester is Rob Astorino, a really great guy I worked with on campaigns in NYC. Huge congrats, Rob!

Posted by: HOTAiR: Chris Christie Wins New Jersey | DC SMELL REPORT at November 3, 2009 at 11:31 pmAnd my county executive got fired! HOLY SHIT!
Eleven years, a cumulative increase of 60% in the county portion of our property taxes, and finally, FINALLY he got tossed out on his ass.
Posted by: Perry Eidelbus at November 4, 2009 at 12:29 amI just saw that and updated the post! Crazy!!!
Posted by: Karol at November 4, 2009 at 12:33 amVery good news.
When he spoke to the NYYR Club about a month ago and claimed that he was on the verge of victory I thought he was exaggerating his chances of winning, but it turns out he was right.
Posted by: Gerard at November 4, 2009 at 2:23 amA good night for the Republicans (not a great one-while decent for a Dem, Owens picked up a seat that has not been in Dem hands for decades). The big surprise? Michael Bloomberg who loves the nanny state and sodomy and hates Jesus, Elvis, America and dogs did not crush the hapless Democrat nominee. I’m sure the Republicans will claim that the tide has turned against Obama and I’m sure the Dems will crow about their two House victories…and we can get back to more important things. Like Sunday’s NFL games.
Posted by: Von Bek at November 4, 2009 at 10:14 amLooks like Suozzi eked out the victory in Nassau by 300 votes
Posted by: The Rooster at November 4, 2009 at 10:17 amWow. The Conservative candidate for Nassau Executive got 3.9% of the vote. If only the CP cross endorsed the Republican, a victory for Mangano would be certain.
The difference is 237 votes according to the latest NY Times tally.
This will be a recount and will include papre and absentee ballots as well.
It’s gonna go on for a bit, this one.
Posted by: daniel at November 4, 2009 at 12:16 pmWhy do all the know-it-alls keep repeating the big lie that the area of upstate NY which is currently called the NY-23 hasn’t been in Democratic hands for “decades,” or even since the Civil War, as Nancy Pelosi, Robert Gibbs, and Wolf Blitzer have asserted ?
The Democrats last held that seat as recently as January 19, 1993.
That’s hardly “decades.”
Please.
Also, the Democrats used to dominate that particular seat. They held it from 1923 thru 1973.
And yes, I know the parameters of the district have been slightly re-drawn a number of times throughout the years.
Posted by: New York Minute at November 4, 2009 at 7:37 pmVon Bek,
Maybe you should admit that you’re dead wrong that it has been “decades” since the Democrats held that seat.
