The problem is that people like me, who believe guns serve a necessary purpose of self-defense, don’t want to spend the days following a national tragedy showing the hysterical gun-grabbers the factual information about guns. We want to be able to mourn our fellow countrymen too, but because of the rush to blame and finger-point it becomes an immediate debate. We want to spend the days in solemn thought, not pointing out that according to a Justice Department study in 1994, there are approximately 1.5 million defensive gun uses in America each year. We don’t want to keep stating the obvious: that places like NYC, Chicago, or DC, which essentially ban all guns, have an extraordinarily high level of shootings. It turns out that people who would use guns for ill don’t actually care about laws and those of us who do are sitting ducks because we are prohibited from owning guns. It’s tiring to keep pointing out that, no, banning some guns won’t make any difference at all.

You pay insurance and pass a test to own a car…
The constitution mentions the well organized militia. Gun owners need training. It says a lot that the local firing range would not allow this guy to come in. Owning a gun is fine so long as your not an asshole nutjob moron. A gun version of the DMV is an idea I could cope with.
“You pay insurance and pass a test to own a car…”
Respectfully, no. You pay insurance and pass a test to *drive* a car. Don’t tell me “there’s not a difference”. There is, and it’s significant.
And ‘yes’, firearm shooters *do* need training, but it should not (and does not) automatically translate into a mandate for the government to provide or regulate that training.
“A gun version of the DMV is an idea I could cope with.”
Really? Have you ever visited a DMV? And that experience was ‘acceptable’ to you? No thanks.
I want a national divorce from that kind of helpless, lazy thinking. I don’t want to share a legislature, a currency, a border, a tax liability or a set of social norms with a citizenry unworthy of citizenship.
When the NRA membership are surveyed and THEY want tighter gun laws, what then?
What about the well trained militia?
I don’t ‘take direction’ from the NRA, BHO, NOW, or any other band of jerks who believe they have a mandate to dictate the terms of my liberty.
