Something that needed to be said all along …
Read your article today. Simply brilliant! very insightful. very right on.
Thank you for your article pointing out the obvious. The term of art for Slaughter and everyone who thinks like her that they deserve to have it all is “Entitlement Princess”.
That’s only scratching the surface, I am afraid, Karol.
Yes, men do not usually stay at home to raise children, but not because “they don’t have that choice”, because they don’t want to. Not only because if they do, the family would lose money, but because they don’t know how. Nobody prohibits them to stay home. And it’s not their wives that order them to go to work and “suck it up”. They do it themselves – because of the harsh financial reality: for the same position and same job performance men receive higher salaries than women. On all levels and in all industries.
So, everything else being equal (say, both parents equally care about their children’ wellbeing and equally see their ambition in raising children rather than working) it makes much more sense for financial prosperity of the family that the man will concentrate on his career outside of home.
Besides, why do you think only men know what it means to “suck it up”? Women are very much familiar with this maxim – be they stuck-home-w/kids careerists or working moms who suffer their bosses in office to make ends meet.
Life is not made of sugar for adults, period.
Excellent and highly original piece!
“If feminism is still about equality between the sexes, women should look to men to see what successful, guilt-free “balance” looks like. Hint: The formulais a lot less “have it all” and a lot more ’suck it up.’”
Well said. That sound you hear is me cackling in amusement at how many of my Lefty friends would respond to this kind of truth-telling.
