We love love

In my latest column for the NY Post I wonder if Americans will overlook Newt Gingrich’s multiple marriages and romantic destruction. Conclude, no.

“Gay marriage is a hot-button issue precisely because we value marriage so much.”
No. It’s because homosexuality is intolerable to the GOP base.
I just hope you did not place a but on South Carolina!

We all know what Teddy did on the bridge and Clinton did with a cigar, yet both became icons. We know how Spitzer used women and he was punished by giving him his own CNN show. Newt, well, he is a real bad guy, right? There is no double standard in this country, right?

“No. It’s because homosexuality is intolerable to the GOP base.”

You’re free to believe that, I don’t, but then how to explain the pro-gay marriage side caring so much about the ability to marry. If marriage isn’t so important, why not just get a domestic partnership agreement and be happy with that.

Richard, What Teddy, Clinton and Spitzer did was after they were elected. It’s true the voters voted for Teddy again but Clinton and Spitzer were never up for re-election again. Also, they stayed married. Newt didn’t. I don’t think he’s such a bad guy, just that part of what Americans vote for is a happy marriage. Strange but true.
