The legend of Ronald Reagan

My latest piece for WNYC’s It’s a Free Country site explains why Reagan still matters to so many conservatives and why Christie probably won’t run.

Mama does make the best pierogi

Interesting, accurate, article about many Russian-American “kids” living with their parents after college. And not because they have to.

#6- They don’t drink the blood of poor children

5 myths about millionaires. Such as:

3. Millionaires pay proportionately less income tax than poorer people.

In a speech on Monday, Obama said raising taxes on millionaires isn’t class warfare, but “math.” His math may be off: According to the IRS, those with adjusted gross incomes of more than $1 million paid an average of 23.3 percent in federal income taxes in 2008; those earning between $100,000 and $200,000 paid 12.7 percent; and those earning between $50,000 and $100,000 paid 8.9 percent. Nearly half of American families don’t make enough money to pay federal income taxes at all.

Herman Cain wins the Florida Straw Poll. You can say it doesn’t matter, and maybe it doesn’t, but Tim Pawlenty dropped out after a poor showing in the Iowa Straw Poll and Iowa ain’t Florida.

UPDATE: I should add, though, that Bachmann won that same Iowa Straw Poll and is now in a total collapse.

I’m brave

I take a bold, bold stand with my piece on the debate tonight: Both Mitt Romney and Rick Perry need to do well.

When the enemy is you

If you’re a conservative (or a libertarian or a regular ole Republican or anything other than a liberal) living on either coast, or in a big city, or anywhere considered “blue”, you’ve probably lived through something like this. It was still hard to read and very disheartening.

But the bankruptcy and cronyism doesn’t help.

My latest for WNYC’s A Free Country points out that even without the bankruptcy and the cronyism, Solyndra was no success.

Because they’re not on crack

New York magazine’s cover this week has Barack Obama wearing a yarmulke and the teaser: “Barack Obama is the best thing Israel has going for it right now. Why is that so difficult for Netanyahu and his American Jewish allies to understand?”

Please see post title for answer.

Yay, Turner!

I’ve long said that Russians in Americans are a natural Republican constituency. Here’s some evidence from yesterday, in my latest for WNYC’s A Free Country.

10 Years Later

I’m not over 9/11, not even close, but those who are and who mock the commemoration, roll their eyes at the media coverage and disgust in the yearly pause on this day do so because they live in total freedom. In my latest post for It’s A Free Country, I remember my grandmother who didn’t.

No, we can’t

My latest piece for WNYC’s A Free Country blames Obama for the Carson shooting yesterday.

Can’t we all just get along?

Natasha Mayer has a great piece in the Daily Caller about how not to take political disagreement so personally. And she shares the secret that everyone hangs out together in D.C., regardless of their political persuasion. I remember being sort of shocked by that when I got there.

Sarah Palin is doing something, somewhere.

And the press can’t get enough, my latest for WNYC’s A Free Country.
