I personally wonder what it’s going to do to the GOP as a whole. One, I think Bachmann is rapidly talking herself out of the race.* Two, most of the other known and potential candidates are similarly not equipped to tackle the bow wave that Perry is generating. Finally, the Northeast apparatchiks think it is Mitt’s turn…but the South and Western conservatives basically think anyone with his record has not only made deals with the Devil but possibly been caught in a compromising position with Mr. Satan’s eldest daughter. (”What?!! I was under the Mistletoe…we had too much egg nog…one thing led to another. I mean, hello…you _really_ think it was Lucifer wearing that blue dress in the song? Makes Helen of Troy look like a burnt out meth ho, I tell ya!”)
I won’t even get into whether either one of them can beat Obama. Given that the media has basically burnt its credibility with independents, I think that it will actually be a fair fight. Unfortunately I think Mitt would be inclined to fight “fair” in that situation, which means he could be undone by an economic bright patch. Perry, on the other hand, will bring the pain no matter what the chattering classes will say about him–and probably win going away.
*I mean, I’d love $2 a gallon gasoline as much as the next person–I also don’t see how a President makes that happen in her first term. Well, short of mimicking the Bolsheviks vs. Mensheviks discussion with anyone who stood in the way of pumping oil…but that’s not how we do things in this country.
if either of those will be on the ballot I’m staying out of this election
I’m undecided but Perry seems ok to me. Why are you anti, Tatyana?
