Two years ago this week, then-Senator Obama declared that his very nomination as Democratic-party presidential candidate (never mind his election, or inauguration) marked the moment when “our planet began to heal” and “the rise of the oceans began to slow.” “Well, when you anoint yourself King Canute,” remarked Charles Krauthammer the other day, “you mustn’t be surprised when your subjects expect you to command the tides.”

Some of you will want to e-mail the White House or Hearst after watching to demand that she be kicked out of the daily briefings going forward. Resist the urge. Drudge has picked up the video so the powers-that-be will surely see it. If, absent public pressure forcing them to act, they’re untroubled by it, then fine. Let her sit there and ask her questions, and whenever you see her onscreen, take it as a reminder that there really are ideological tumors growing out there.
I take Allah’s point here, better to not let her ousting (should it even happen) become a “Jews forced me out” type of nonsense. If Hearst newspapers don’t have a problem with her comments, the problem is bigger than just her.
“Unthinkable (I’m ready)” by Alicia Keys, the Drake remix.
I haven’t done one of these in awhile, been sharing music on twitter instead. But I’m loving this song today so I thought I’d post it.

I was so mixed when Israel gave up Gaza. On one hand, who wants Israeli soldiers, these 18, 19, 20 and 21 year olds, patrolling hostile territory, risking their lives, and for what? On the other hand, have you seen what happens in Gaza with no Israeli control? Mad. House.
The larger problem with an independent Gaza is, of course, how much independence should Gaza have? Can they have an airport? Can they have an army? Should they be able to buy missiles? The answer, to anyone paying any attention, is of course HELL NO. There is no one, no matter how pro-Palestinian, that has ever argued the fact that if the Palestinians had Israel’s weaponry then there would be no Israel.
So it stands to reason that for Israel to protect itself, it must stop any flow of weapons into Gaza. That means, that a bunch of ships coming in from Turkey will, yes, be stopped. When the IDF boards these ships, which knew they would be stopped, and are attacked by the passengers, violence will ensue. Israel will not lay down and die, it just won’t, and people who hate Israel should just stop hoping otherwise.
I was at my in-laws yesterday (some may not know but the I in IC stands for Israeli) and they were watching Israeli tv. The mood of the newscasters was so somber, it was clear that Israel didn’t want this. They cut to a newscaster on the street in London, covering a Hezbollah march. He stopped a British guy and asked him why he was marching with Hezbollah. The British guy, who couldn’t be more cheerful and overusing the word “mate”, said “Because they will finish your state. Your state has to go.” Just like that, you shouldn’t exist. What other country has such massive, undeserved hatred directed at it? What other country do people feel so comfortable saying should be wiped off the map? The best Israel could hope for with the current administration is what it got yesterday: nothing. The lack of condemnation is the highest form of friendship from America these days. It’s sad but it seems Israel understands that its isolation from the world does not mean it should give up on protecting themselves. No one else will do it for them.
Update: And here’s another one of the weapons found aboard the Mavi Marmara. Can’t imagine what use “peace” activists would have had for them.
Update: Jake Tapper is reporting that the Obama administration supports the statement from the UN Security Council condemning the Israeli response. So much for the “nothing” that was Israel’s best case scenario.
