Isn’t it kind of awesome that the new general in Afghanistan is the liberal favorite General Betrayus?
And the ousted general was an Obama-voting, Fox-News-hating softie.
I did think Gen. McChrystal had to go. Love Obama or hate him, he is the president and Commander-in-Chief. Giving the interview he gave to the Rolling Stone (!?!) was insubordination. I do find it odd that the same liberals who would’ve praised a general saying the same things about Bush are outraged at McChrystal’s comments about Obama. Wasn’t he speaking truth to power?

The stuff McCrystal himself said doesn’t rise to the level of insubordination. If that’s all there was, I don’t think it would be a big deal. But he’s responsible for his staff, and clearly disrespect for the president is tolerated.
The silver lining I take from all of this is Petraeus thinks the war is still winnable, or he wouldn’t have taken the position.
he wouldn’t have taken the position.
Can a general refuse CIC?
Very cheeky first line..love it.
I agree he had to be fired, his/his staff comments were kinda scary though.
The President hadn’t spoke to him for the first 70 Days. Kinda gives with a president who is out of touch and over his head.
So much for ending the wars.
Can a general refuse CIC?
At that level, they ask you if you want the job. They can’t afford to have someone who isn’t committed. Patraeus, in particular, they would have asked because the might just retire and start his rumored campaign for president.
The president most likely had to promise some things to get Patraeus to agree, too. Things like replacing timetables with conditions and the surge strength McCrystal originally requested.
hings like replacing timetables with conditions and the surge strength McCrystal originally requested.
Obama showed himself a really shrewd 3D chess-player, again!
I think Petraeus is a patriot who decided that if the President really, really needed him he’d go. Well, that and I’m pretty sure the first five generals they asked were like, “Not just no, but *bleep* no!”
I’m just glad this pretty much kills the Petraeus 2012 talk. That was the last thing the Republic needed.
What do you mean “like him or not, he’s the CIC”?
He’s a Usurper. His father was never a citizen, so there is no way he can be a Natural Born Citizen. He needs to be removed from office. McChrystal has standinding to file Quo Warranto in the DC District challenging Obama’s eligibility, but then he was a Lefty who voted for Obama. Patreus is not a Natural Born Citizen either (his father was not a citizen when young Patreus was born), so he won’t challenge Obama either. Generals are now politicians.
