Azi Paybarah is awesome

NY voters chose to impose term limits on our elected officials in not one but two referendums. But then came along Mayor Bloomberg and our entirely useless City Council and decided, voters shmoters, I like being in office! They said it was because we were in such a financial crisis, NY being the epicenter of the banking industry and therefore at the forefront of the economic collapse, that asking voters to look at new possible leaders was just too much for the average New Yorker to bear.

This morning, at a press conference, Mayor Bloomberg said, about the economy that he is “reasonably optimistic we’ve turned a corner.” Azi Paybarah, of the NY Observer tried to ask the completely reasonable question of if, in that case, whether the rationale for extending term limits still existed. Bloomberg did not like that. A must-watch video. Go Azi!

UPDATE: More from Elizabeth Benjamin:

And then, as the mayor walks away from the podium, he looks at Azi and says, almost under his breath: “You’re a disgrace.” (Read his lips).

Ironically, Bloomberg once used that very word to describe…the City Council’s effort to change term limits.

Actually, he said that was an “absolute disgrace.” But why quibble?

Bloomberg is making it clear that the only way he’s leaving office is via assassination.

Following in the footsteps of supporters of a certain presidential candidate, those showing solidarity with Azi Paybarah, should change their middle name to “A Disgrace”!
