So, you know, if crimes committed against them are proportionate to their presence in the population, then in practice this isn’t a big deal.
Posted by: David at March 1, 2009 at 9:28 amWell, it’s bad police work because, supposedly, they’re afraid that Muslims will be “driven” towards radicalism. This ignores the majority of research on the root causes of terrorism.
People turn towards radicalism for the same reason anyone joins a criminal gang or mob. They want to prove they’re tough, they want money, drugs, status, etc. and they don’t want to work too hard. If the police wanted to get rid of the Muslim extremist groups in the area, they’d make their lives more difficult, not easier. They’d cut off the Saudi funding, they’d patrol the streets more, they’d crack down on all crime, infiltrate the mosques and throw radical leaders into solitary confinement.
