Would Rudy as veep assuage your fears?

Posted by: hashfanatic at January 29, 2008 at 11:55 pm

Karol,
I’ve said it before but it is only fair that I say it again, after ridiculing your prediction that McCain would come back when the polls seemed to suggest that was impossible. I will never doubt your analysis again.
Except, of course, that I disagree with you about McCain. Up until now I have backed Rudy 100%, now I back McCain 100%. While I don’t agree with him on all the issues, he clearly has no problem standing up for what he thinks is right even when it is politically unpopular (see, e.g., the surge) and that kind of credibility I admire immensely. I also happen to agree with him on most of his positions — certainly far more so than Romney or Huckabee. And it doesn’t hurt that I think he is the only one left standing that can beat Hillary in ‘08.
McCain for President!

If you ever make it out to So Cal, I’m definitely taking you to the horse races.

i think i remember you shortly after the 2004 election talking about who could be on the vp list, and being from kentucky i naturally thought “ernie fletcher could do that…hes the first GOP governor in 34 or so years”. and look where he is now. unemployed and indicted.
i suck at analysis.
but then again, i didn’t think romney’s religion in america speech was a home run, so i can’t be trusted as an analyst.

And if McCain chooses Giuliani as his running mate?

Posted by: Joe Grossberg at January 30, 2008 at 8:19 am

Go Mac Go!

Posted by: Bill at January 30, 2008 at 9:04 am

Designating a runningmate presupposes that he’s won the Republican nomination.

How about my “Giuliani has no shot in hell” when he was the frontrunner in every poll, both state and national? I think that was particularly good.
The problem, again, with my predictions is that while it’s nice to be right, it would’ve been so much better in this case to be wrong.
At this point, I think I support Mitt until he’s gone and then, yes, I support McCain over Hillary (or Obama).
This is a nightmare. The fact that I saw this nightmare coming really doesn’t make it any better.
And you guys think McCain might pick Rudy for his VP. I highly, highly doubt that. We’re more likely to end up with the McCain/Huckabee double whammy. Pray for him to pick Fred, people, pray.

Posted by: Karol at January 30, 2008 at 10:30 am

But would two old(er) men on the ticket be a good choice to counter the Democrats? Re: Fred?

Posted by: Jennifer at January 30, 2008 at 10:57 am

Being that he’s the “electable one,” is McCain the GOP’s 2008 version of the Dems’ 2004 Kerry?

Posted by: Jason at January 30, 2008 at 11:02 am

Mmm, McCain / Fred at the top of the ticket had better hope the opposite party is Obama / any young Democrat. Seriously.
I’m sure most people here have seen the tape of Kennedy debating Nixon for the ‘60 election, right? Now imagine that in HD. Only way that plays well in Peoria is if something really crazy happens national security-wise. Not crazy good but crazy bad.

It’s too bad you and the rest of the republicans had to smear the huckster unfairly because you got scared he was too religous…..you could have had a real republican president…..instead we’re gonna have an old man who’s erratic or the phony Mitt; who has no chance to beat hillary or obama.
only good thing that might happen is huckster being VP
