So, which is it?

In case it wasn’t obvious by my frequent posts on music, the beach and relationships, I’ve basically taken the summer off from politics. But the recent Hillary quote is too good not to mention. She said:

“It’s a horrible prospect to ask yourself ‘What if? What if?’ But if certain things happen between now and the election, particularly with respect to terrorism, that will automatically give the Republicans an advantage again, no matter how badly they have mishandled it, no matter how much more dangerous they have made the world.”

There are only two options here. She can only be saying that the Democrats are unserious on terrorism and voters know it, or, she’s saying that voters are stupid and will actively vote for the party which mishandles the terrorism threat. Either way, it’s a winning message…for Republicans.

Hillary, as much as I loathe the woman, may be on to something here. The American people rally behind the president and his party when the nation is attacked. See W after 9/11, Bush 41 during the Gulf War, LBJ and Tonkin, FDR, Wilson, Polk…hell see a president who got 39% of the vote and still rallied the nation behind him after a little fort in Charleston harbor was shot at.
Now there is one other option which has never happened in American history (but then FDR did not decide to take out Franco after Pearl Harbor) which is the people get so livid with the president that he becomes even more despised. Bin Laden attacks us. You go after Saddam for…well….WMDS that we can’t find and to make a government that goes on vacation and now Bin Laden attacks us again. It would be unlikely but these are odd times.

Hillary Clinton is the perfect example of “moron”. Her husband gets bj’s from fat interns and she takes it…mysterious billing records from the Rose law firm mysteriously shows up in a room in the white house…she can’t decide if she’s for the war against terrorists that want to kill as many of us as they can, or against it. She’s so smart, she’s retarded…

Would it be okay if he got bjs from thin interns? And why does “bj’s” have an apostrophe? So many questions…

She may just be repeating the thesis from a recent New Republic article. There’s a political psychology theory that folks rally around their leaders and more conservative idealogy in a time of fear (whether it be 9/11 itself or Bin Laden threats immediately before an election). I think the theory tries to explain more than it really can, but there’s probably something to it on a smaller scale.

Thin interns would be much preferable. Thin and hot, actually. We have standards to uphold as a country, for God’s sake. What does it say when the French president’s mistresses are more attractive than the US president’s? It’s a mistress gap!
On a more serious note, what Hillary is saying is true, and not because of any “rally around the flag” mentality. Americans have watched how Democrats behave in regard to the military since the ’60s, and they don’t like what they see. The only way the Dems can win on terrorism is to convince the public 9/11 was a one time thing we’ll never have to deal with again.
