I collect old radio programs including BBC programs. The biggest change that the hippies had on the programs was the type of English spoken.
Before the hippies, all BBC programs used a educated English dialect. The goal being to educate the Brits on the proper way of speaking. I think that was an admirable goal.
After the hippies, the actors spoke the many dialects that are in the UK. Dialects that are very difficult to understand especially for Americans. The BBC gave up on educating the public, they wanted to reflect the culture as it existed.
