Headline: Prison population in Iraq doubles in 5 months
The growth in the prison population has come amid a lingering insurgency in Iraq and despite the formal transfer of power to an interim Iraqi government last June.
I would’ve written that differently:
The growth in the prison population has come because of a lingering insurgency in Iraq and because the formal transfer of power to an interim Iraqi government last June has made cracking down on terrorists and criminals a priority.

Astute indeed. No wonder I’ll read 21 blogs before I look to the first “news” source.
That’s right…if they won’t live by Bush’s word they die by Bush’s sword…
Or you could have written:
“Incidents of terrorism have decreased significantly as most of the terrorists are now dead or in prison”.
However, these alternative headlines require common sense and that skill is unknown among the left.
You forgot that Saddam emptied the prisons in the months leading up to the invasion. Surely he didn’t let politcal prisoners who might oppose him out of jail? Of course not, he let the violent criminals out to terrorize a public that might have been thinking of throwing in their lot with America.
Smart move, Saddam. Let me know how that works out. (To steal a line from Donald Trump)
