Personally I find Daniel Pipes to be nothing short of a bigot.
But once he has me interred, I’m sure you won’t be bothered with my opinion anymore.
Kearns, can you name a single bigoted thing he’s ever said/written?
His bigotry is not an outward, neanderthal type bigotry, but one masked in scholarly pursuit. This makes it much harder to pinpoint something he’s said or done that clearly shows his bigotry. A good place to start, however, is http://www.danielpipes.org/article/1322 Here he shows either a disdain for the Islamic faith, or a complete misunderstanding of it from an internal perspective. He mixes issues and metaphors in a way that would have one believe that the only acceptable Muslim is a non-practicing, secular Muslim. And that is the first step of a long logical argument that heads much too close to a total anti-Muslim rhetoric. I don’t deny that he’s been warning of Radical Islam for a number of years, and that he isn’t correct about many of the things that he says, but it’s all that he says. His is not a voice of moderation, or understand, but one of anti-Islam.
