And that makes Dick Cheney a……..?
Dangerous territory, Karol.
Rick, was the topic actually the
lack of civility in politics??????
Actually, yes. Cheney was saying that he didn’t appreciate the way Dems were criticizing his ’sweetheart deals’ with Halliburton and Leahy responded that the Dems didn’t appreciate being called anti-Catholic by the Administration.
And as many times as I’ve read the THK quote, I can’t get past thinking that she was just trying to be funny. It dodged the question, sure, but I think she was intentionally making that joke in response to a question on civility.
Can you locate me one occurence of anyone in the administration calling Leahy anti-Catholic? This is a great Michael Moore-ism that the left has picked up: defending itself against charges that were never levelled ala Kerry’s ’stop attacking my patriotism’ when he’s asked a question about taxes.
Actually I think the best argument here would be W. calling Clymer a “major league asshole” and Cheney’s quoting Peter Gabriel. “Oh yeah, big time.” Why should we expect civility from two parties that want to win at all costs ? And if this is the big story from the convention, it is just one more reason to ignore the conventions.
Washington (AP) – Vice President Cheney cursed at Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy during a confrontation on the Senate floor while members were having their annual group picture taken earlier this week, Leahy and Senate sources said Thursday.
Senate aides with knowledge of the encounter Tuesday said the vice president confronted Leahy about some of the Democrat’s criticism about alleged improprieties in Iraq military contracts awarded to Halliburton Co. Cheney, who as vice president is president of the Senate, is a former CEO of Halliburton.
Leahy responded by criticizing the White House for standing by allies who had accused Democrats of being anti-Catholic last year in opposing one of President Bush (website – news – bio) ’s judicial nominees, said one Senate aide, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Cheney then responded, “F— off” or “F— you,” the aide said.
The White House sided with those who call democrats anti-catholic.
So, no you can’t find a single instance of anyone in the administration calling Leahy anti-Catholic? Didn’t you just prove my point?
I was just looking for the story, not for the quotes. Nobody in “the Administration” says it because it is left for the water-carriers in Congress and elsewhere. I didn’t realize that you were distancing yourself from Congressional Republicans.
Let’s please not be naive about this. I know you are more politically sophisticated that that.
Well it’s not exactly “made up” my Michael Moore as reading your comment would have people believe.
That’s my only point.
Ugarte and Paul, both of you have still yet to name one administration official who has said one anti-Catholic word. Also, the ‘allies’ that Leahy accuses the White House of standing by, do these people have names? Could you name one of the Congressional Republicans? C’mon, I know you’re not both just going to buy this story, right? I mean you’re both much more politically sophisticated than that.
I made my only point. I never said an administration official said, anything.
Urgate defends himself well, he doesn’t need my help.
