There’s a reason these people don’t come to Brooklyn

I know it’s been said before: the anti-globalization protestors are a bunch of thugs and represent the very worst of our society. Crosblog has a post (scroll down a bit) about how these protest=party losers are threatening a Georgia town with violence and destruction on the eve of the G-8 summit there. How are the gun laws in Georgia? I would hate to see protestors be misinformed about the risks they run when smashing people’s windows.

OK, I looked on the blogger help site to try and get my %^&$ing permalinks working, and I can’t freaking figure it out. Do I need to set up titles or something? (Currently, my “titles” are just lines in boldface)
On a less frustrating note, regarding Georgia’s gun laws, as a general rule, the great state of Georgia approves of and supports the right to keep and bear arms. Many, if not most, Georgians avail themselves of this right.

Back in 1996, PETA made a lot of noise about protesting the annual Tarpon Rodeo, a big fishing tournament down in Louisiana. They were planning on snorkeling or scuba diving and cutting the lines of fishermen. Someone must have told them that Louisiana fishermen typically pack heat because for some mysterious reason, they backed off that protest.
Hey, if someone gets shot, the Georgian in question should just shrug and say, “Hey, people don’t kill people. Guns do.”

Great, so it’s not enough to throw “protestors” in jail for criticizing President Bush, now they should be shot?

Are you purposely ignoring the ‘breaking the windows’ part of that sentence, Dawn? Like my title suggests, imagine these protestors coming into your neighborhood in Brooklyn and trying to break windows on Flatbush Ave. How long do you suppose they would last?

Depends, are the protestors also looting?

Posted by: Dawn Summers at March 30, 2004 at 5:31 pm

Guy, with or without looting, breaking windows on Flatbush Ave (or on Kings Hwy or Brighton Beach or any of the other non-wuss areas of Brooklyn-like hipster Williamsburg) would translate into busting heads and you know it. Why should the good people of Georgia react any differently?

Posted by: Karol at March 30, 2004 at 5:33 pm

because they don’t want their town burned down.

So they have to cower and fear these thugs? I don’t understand how the same girl that will teach her kids to throw a punch if they’re teased is so ready to surrender in almost any other circumstance.

Do G-8 protestors usually smash windows of the local community?

Posted by: PAUL at March 30, 2004 at 10:34 pm

Did you read the article where they threaten to burn the town down?

Posted by: Karol at March 31, 2004 at 1:20 am

“because they don’t want their town burned down.”
Burning down the town is okay but defending property is not?
